Station 1

Step 1 - Develop a Solution

Problem

"I'm starting blended learning with my students this week. I'm wondering what to tell my parents. I'm not even sure what to tell my campus administrator. But we have one to one (checkout) or they can use their own devices. What do you suggest?"

Project & Task

Prepare a short, informational video that explains how you are going to organize blended learning with your K-5 students. Your audience may be composed of students, their parents, colleagues and campus administrators.

Roadblocks to Speak To

  1. Students may think online means working only from home. Some workarounds:
    • Manage student expectations by explaining what you expect them to do at home and in class.
  2. Students may lack time management skills.
    • Provide time for completion, and divide work into bite-sized modules.
  3. Technology can become an obstacle to students
    • Use a learning management system like Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Schoology, Seesaw.

Step 2 - Explore and Create

Create ONE of the following (unless your team wants to try more):

    • a hyperdoc about a lesson or topic of your choice
    • a narrated slideshow that explains the use of a learning management system (LMS) in your classroom

Students may think online means working only from home.

Students may lack time management skills.

Detours:

Manage student expectations by explaining what you expect them to do at home and in class.

Provide time for completion, and divide work into bite-sized modules.

Possible Solution:

Create a hyperdoc (click this link to see more resources) that outlines what they need to do.

Technology can become an obstacle to students

Use a learning management system like Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Schoology, Seesaw.

Possible Solution

Pick any ONE of the learning management systems and create a short Google Slide Show as a video explaining to students and parents what the learning management system will be used for in your class.
