GC: Get Started
Set Up Your Google Account
Don't have a Google account? You can set one up for free. You will need your mobile phone to set up something called multi-factor authentication to protect yourself against hackers. Follow the steps below to get your free Google account. If you already have a Gmail account through home or work, you don't need to take this step.
Go to Gmail.com and click on the CREATE ACCOUNT link, then select your purpose:
For my personal use
For my child
For work or my business
Enter the requested information. You will have to come up with a unique username, some combination of your first name, middle and/or last name that you can remember.
Also, come up with a password that is tough to crack, and that you can write down. Try using a password generator.
HOT TIP: Need a way to keep track of all your passwords?
Use a free tool like Bitwarden. It works great on all computers, smartphones, and tablets. You only have to memorize ONE password, and Bitwarden remembers the rest of them for you. Pop some popcorn and watch this video series to get you set up.
Fill in requested and required information, such as:
Phone number (necessary for verification)
Recovery Email
Your birthday
Gender
Once you have entered information, continue, and then click the "I agree" button on the next page.
You will be taken to your Gmail Inbox, and you'll be able to explore the waffleboard up in the top right hand corner.
You can click, hold, and drag the icons around in the waffle to re-arrange what you see there. Since we are going to be working with certain Google Tools, you might want to re-arrange the icons shown to mirror the ones have in my waffle.
Move Gmail, Keep, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Forms into the top 4 rows of the waffle.
